Sports Premium

Funding

The government is providing additional funding of £320 million until the year 2021 in order to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools across the country. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school head teachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

We are using our Sports Premium funding to improve the quality of our PE and Sport provision at St Joseph's in the following ways:

·         Procuring quality assured professional training for staff to raise their confidence and competence in the teaching PE.

·         Providing cover staff to facilitate the release of teachers for continuing professional development in PE and sport.

·         Dance training and support for teachers throughout the school from a specialist dance practitioner.

·         Participation in sport tournaments, festivals and friendly matches for pupils of all ages.

·         Entering children into different competitive leagues and competitions.

·         Investment in the use of IT in lessons will also aid teacher assessment and the progress of children during PE lessons.

·         Hiring professional sports coaches to teach the children alternative sports.

·         Purchasing new visual aids to support our PE lessons.

·         Purchasing more sports equipment for use during playtimes.

·         Promoting participation in PE throughout the school as part of the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
